Alps Trip

During July members John Meechan and Lindsay and Graham Wyllie travelled to the Alps and had a fairly successful trip despite rather mixed weather and snow conditions in what has been another poor season for weather in the Alps.

Two 4000m peaks were climbed initially: Gran Paradiso (4061m) in Italy by all 3 members; The Dom (4545m) in Switzerland by Graham and John, as Lindsay had climbed it several years ago. Both are valley to summit ascents with no cable-car/rail assists so are fairly physically demanding. Following that it was hoped with time remaining to get the Allalinhorn which is a 2 hour climb from the lifts. Unfortunately a flat car battery knackered the plans, but all round a successful trip given conditions. More pictures can be seen here.
